Hi all,
Hope you all had a good Easter break and are studying hard for your mid-term exams!
Here is an article about Shakira's visit to Haiti. I would like to hear your thoughts on famous people highlighting the plight of people in need. Do you think it is noble work? Or do you think celebrities do it to promote themselves? Also, do you think its right that people only donate money to a country like Haiti when it has an earthquake and not before when it was still the poorest Latin American country. Any thoughts you have on this subject are much appreciated :)

Hi Simon!!!!!!! I always say it…. Why we have to wait until something really horrible happen for start helping people???? When the Haiti earthquake happened the new media started to show the horrible new for more that 3 weeks….. And know, what happen with Haiti???? In that moment we saw millions of dead people a really sad situation but in Haiti a lot people die because of lack of food so what is the different…..Colombian people donated a lot food for Haiti just in a day, it was a good cause and I think that we should do the same for the people our country that in this moment need our help…. About the artist I think is noble work, anyway is better late than never and they still need help… is good that they give some money for good things instead of keeping their luxuries =)
ReplyDeleteI hope that all the artists who do charities use the advertising power that they has to attract to the mass media and in this way , to help massively the people who needs us in these moments where the nature shows us his incredible and sometimes cruel power. We should be happy that people in Haiti will be helped by Artists who have the economic resources enough to do it. If it is or not an advertising strategy, it does not matter while the people could be helped.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your commments :) From what I have read, Shakira is very committed to many causes all over the world and she is very actively involved in her charity work. However, sometimes I think that other artists take advantage of bad situations like that of Haiti to increase their own profile. It sounds a little cynical but I think this happens sometimes :(
ReplyDeleteNice Pic
